---- — EDDYVILLE – The Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont School Board learned this week about community service work students recently completed throughout the area.
“The students did a great job. They were engaged in some service learning opportunities in Fremont, Eddyville, Blakesburg and around the school,” said Junior/Senior High School Principal Matt Johnson.
Students worked on a variety of projects to help out local community members and city leaders. They painted, cleaned, planted and washed windows.
In addition, one-third of junior/senior high school students earned the right to opt out of final exams by reaching their goal of improving scores in both math and reading comprehension on the Iowa Assessments. For many students that means an early start to summer vacation.
In other news, the board:
• Accepted the resignation of Fremont Elementary Principal/Curriculum Director Joellen Breon, who has accepted a principal position in Albia.
• Accepted the resignation of Fremont Elementary secretary Ann Brown.
• Approved school fees for 2013-14, with all fees unchanged, except for breakfast and lunch fees which will increase by 10 cents each.
• Changed the date of the regular June board meeting to 7 p.m. on June 10.
