VB Co. Supervisors approve purchases

KEOSAUQUA — Van Buren County Board of Supervisors voted Monday at its regular meeting to authorize the purchase of two tractors that will be used for mowing ditches.

The county engineer was authorized to purchase two Kubota model M126GXDTC tractors from Wiss and Wiss, Kahoka, Mo., for the net cost of $87,382 (includes trade-ins).

County Engineer Dave Barrett presented quotes on three tractors that included their allotments for trade-ins. At the last meeting, Barrett did not provide quotes for trade-ins from John Deere and Maxxum dealers. Supervisors had requested the engineer provide more information on what those dealers would pay for trade-ins on two machines that the county currently uses.

Barrett received quotes from Wiss and Wiss, J. J. Nichting and Sydenstricker dealers and presented the information at Monday’s meeting.

The John Deere 7230, 2013 model, was quoted as $78,500 for each machine, less trade-ins totaling $12,500 for the Agco 8765 and $15,000 for the Agro LT70. That brought the total cost to the county to $129,500.

J.J. Nichting bid on a 125 MC, 2014 model. One model was in stock and cost $78,600, and another is very similar and cost $74,400. They allotted $10,000 trade-in for the Agco and $12,000 for the Agro. The total cost to the county would be $131,000.

Wiss and Wiss bid $62,391 for each machine and allotted $15,900 for the Agco trade-in and $21,500 for the Agro.

In other business, Marvin Cox reported that Morris Park supporters will pay for dust control treatment on the 2 miles of roads leading to the popular park.

“They want to place calcium chloride and will use the dry material,” Cox said. “It is cheaper.”

In the past, Morris Park and the county split the cost for the dust control, using a spray-on that is commonly used by most people in the county.

The cost for the dry material is around $720, Cox stated, for 2,400 pounds of product.
