---- — OTTUMWA — Three southeast Iowa counties have teamed up to be a new mental health region and have filed a 28E agreement with the state of Iowa.
As directed by the state, the Wapello County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday also approved Wapello County as the fiscal agent for South Central Behavioral Health Region 28E.
After the meeting, Supervisor Jerry Parker said the new region will include Wapello, Davis and Appanoose counties.
"We've done our work early and have filed our information with the state," he said. "We're ahead of the game and have tried to stay ahead so there wouldn't be any last-minute things."
Under Iowa Code, the supervisors can create a mental health region, and that's why the supervisors proceeded early.
"We decided we'd do it and be ahead of the ballgame," Parker said. "The three counties work well together, and all three have approved the region and the agreement."
