---- — EDDYVILLE – Eddyville City Council members continued discussion of city park improvements during its regular council session this week.

Councilman Doug Greenlee reported that restoration work on the central bandstand is nearing completion with just one more coat of paint needed.

The old shelters have been removed, and work on the new one is quickly advancing.

The council approved allowing Alliant Energy to add new lighting fixtures to the park.

Greenlee reported that an individual has expressed interest in donating a tether ball and pole to the park. This will be considered at a later date.

The council acknowledged several recent donations to the park improvements project.

Extensive restoration work has been completed on and around the Civil War statue over the past couple years, and work to the rest of the park continues.

“All in all, I think things have gone pretty well for the park,” Greenlee said.

In other business, the council approved:

— A variance for Robert Velduizen to build a deck at his property on North Third Street, allowing an extension onto city property for construction of a handicapped ramp for current tenants.

— Increase in copy fees at city hall from 10 cents each to 25 cents.

— Beer license and Sunday sales for Casey’s General Store.
