Ottumwan sentenced to 10 years in prison

---- — OTTUMWA — An Ottumwa man was sentenced to a decade in federal prison following a drug bust at his home last summer.

Ottumwa Police Department and Southeast Iowa Inter-Agency Drug Task Force officers executed a search warrant at 1214 N. Adams St. on July 16. As a result of their search, they seized marijuana plants, marijuana, firearms, ammunition and 112 grams of methamphetamine. The street value of meth is $100-$120 per gram.

Antonio DeJesus Echeverria, 26, of 1214 N. Adams St., pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court, Southern District of Iowa to possession with the intent to distribute at least 50 grams of actual methamphetamine.

On Friday, he was sentenced to 120 months imprisonment related to the charges. The court recommended that he be imprisoned in the Federal Correctional Institution in Sandstone, Minn., and be allowed to participate in a drug treatment program while incarcerated, according to court documents. He was also required to forfeit two handguns and several rounds of ammunition to the government.
