---- — OTTUMWA — A toddler was been life-flighted to Iowa City after being assaulted at an Ottumwa home.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. Monday, the Ottumwa Police Department received a report of a 2-year-old male who was unresponsive in the 100 block of East Woodland Avenue. The child was transported to Ottumwa Regional Health Center and was then life-flighted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment.
Tuesday morning, Ottumwa investigators executed a search warrant at the residence. The preliminary investigation indicated the child had been assaulted.
“As of right now, we do not know his condition, but as of [Tuesday] night, it was critical,” said interim police chief Tom McAndrew.
This incident is currently under investigation by the OPD Investigations Unit. McAndrew could not comment on whether any suspects had been identified or whether arrests were expected.
