---- — CEDAR RAPIDS — Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont proved they won't go down without a fight in the second game of its first 2A State Volleyball Semifinal. The Rockets cut a nine-point deficit all the way down to four against defending state champ Dike-New Hartford, winning some big points at the net along the way.
The 19-10 deficit, however, was just too much to overcome in game two for EBF. The top-ranked Wolverines moved within one win of returning to the 2A State Volleyball Finals with a 25-19 game two win to follow up game one's 25-14 victory.
Junior hitter Briana Weber finished the second game with 12 kills, the only player in double figures in winner category. Karlie Taylor, coming off a 2A tournament-high 33-kill performance on Wednesday in the state quarterfinals, led EBF with eight kills in the opening two games.
EBF scored points on three blocks and pair of hitting errors midway through game two, a recipie that worked up to that point to put Dike-New Hartford in control of the match. After having the lead cut to 23-19, the Wolverines' first timeout of the match was followed by a Lizzy Blough kill and a nasty serve that EBF could not return inbounds to finish the game.
