New sports store coming to mall

OTTUMWA — A new tenant is coming to Quincy Place Mall.

Lexington Realty International announced Friday afternoon the mall's newest tenant, MC Sports. Construction has already begun, and the store is anticipated to open just in time for back-to-school shopping. MC Sports will anchor the shopping mall in the former Goody's location with more than 34,000 square feet of sporting goods and employ approximately 25-35 full- and part-time employees.

The Ottumwa location will become the fifth MC Sports store in Iowa.

"We're excited to bring to Ottumwa our Team Sports Program, a program designed to reduce the cost of participation in sports for both young and old," said MC Sports president and CEO Bruce Ullery. "We are dedicated to working directly with coaches, players and parents to offer the best gear at the very best prices."

The mall has seen significant changes in the past few months with the opening of national retailer rue21 and most recently, local restaurant Bubba-Q’s.

"MC Sports will add yet another reason to shop locally," said mall manager Staci Shettler. "Ottumwans and our surrounding communities host a large number of hunters, fishermen, cyclists, golfers, runners and other athletes who will be able to find high-quality gear for their sport."
