OTTUMWA — Fights between television companies and carriers are nothing new. Every now and then they break out into public view when channels disappear.
Ottumwa customers are seeing the effects right now.
Dish Network and KYOU, the Fox affiliate for Ottumwa and Kirksville, have been unable to reach an agreement to keep the channel on the air. Dueling statements from the companies were released this morning, with each blaming the other for the interruption.
Dish Network accuses KYOU, owned by Raycom Media, of seeking “a massive price increase,” in a new contract. KYOU, in turn,is urging Dish Network customers to seek refunds for the missing channel or to switch to other providers.
The only point of agreement, at least publicly, is that the two sides have been unable to come to an agreement on a contract to air Raycom Media channels.
