DES MOINES — A Nebraska man won a $40,000 lottery prize while visiting family in Ottumwa over the weekend.
Roch Podraza, of Lincoln, Neb., won the seventh of eight top prizes of $40,000 playing the Iowa Lottery’s “Bass Pro Shops” instant-scratch game. He claimed his prize Monday at the lottery’s headquarters in Des Moines.
Podraza, formerly of Ottumwa, purchased his winning ticket Sunday at the Kum & Go on Mary Street.
One top prize of $40,000 is still up for grabs in “Bass Pro Shops,” as well as 14 prizes of $1,000, 66 prizes of $500 “Bass Pro Shops” gift cards and more than 150 prizes of $100.
Since the lottery’s start in 1985, its players have won more than $3.1 billion in prizes, while the lottery has raised more than $1.4 billion for the state programs that benefit its residents.
