Pollard trial pushed back

OTTUMWA — The trial against the alleged murderer of the Cinema X manager has been delayed.

At a hearing this week, Bruce Darnell Pollard’s April 9 trial date was canceled, and counsel was directed to work with the courts on solidifying an alternative date. A chosen date must be presented to the courts on April 8.

Pollard, 26, was charged with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery two months after the body of Kenneth McDaniel was discovered inside the front door of the Cinema X theater on March 13, 2012.

Pollard has also been charged in an armed robbery of the Sonic drive-in restaurant on March 12, 2012, as well as the armed robbery at the Jefferson Street BP convenience store on March 15, 2012.

The court recently ordered that the trials regarding the two armed robberies “may be held beyond the one-year deadline.”
