---- — OTTUMWA — Candidates for Ottumwa's City Council will have to face voters twice, once in a primary in October and again at the election in November.

Eight candidates filed paperwork for the contest, which will determine who holds three council seats. Councilmen Brian Morgan and Jeremy Weller did not contest their seats this time around, leaving Bob Meyers the lone incumbent in the race.

Along with Meyers, the candidates include Skip Stevens, Robert LaPoint, Belinda Smith-Cicarella, David Gordy, Matt Dalbey, Keith Caviness and Dennis Renfrew. The primary, set for October 8, will pare the ballot down to six candidates.

Two candidates filed for mayor: Frank Flanders, the incumbent, and Tom Lazio. The pair means there is a contested election, but voters will not see them on the primary ballot.

The general election will be held November 5.
