County's holiday schedule being reviewed

Ottumwa Courier

---- — OTTUMWA — Wapello County employees will have to wait a little longer to find out their holiday schedule for 2014.

At Tuesday's supervisors meeting, the major item up for discussion was which days at Christmas would be considered holidays. Because Christmas will fall on a Thursday in 2014, the choice is between having Wednesday and Thursday as holidays, as it is currently set, or to have Thursday and Friday as holidays, making it a four-day weekend.

Supervisor Steve Siegel said he would contact union staff and see what their preference would be.

The item was deferred until a future meeting.

In other business:

• A change in pay for a clerk in the CPC office was approved. After 120 days, an automatic raise is in the employee's contract.

• A resolution was passed for a partial tax abatement for a trailer on Rutledge Road. Supervisor Jerry Parker explained that this derelict trailer was removed from the property in 2011 but it was not reported to the county until August. This resolution will be a partial abatement due to the timing.

• An agenda item for considering a lease proposal for server virtualization was deferred until a future meeting.
