OTTUMWA – The Ottumwa middle school and high school jazz bands and show choirs will present their Sweets and Sounds concert Monday, Jan. 29 at Ottumwa High School. The school will serve desserts at 6 p.m. prior to the 7 p.m. Concert.
Jazz band and show choir are part of the district’s fine arts department. Students are required to participate in band to be eligible for jazz band. High school students audition to participate and rehearse outside of the normal school day.
The high-energy high school show choir competition performance is approximately 18 minutes long and features five songs with choreography and costume changes. The show choir will perform in several invitational competitions in February and March.
In its sixth year, Evans Show Choir rehearses two days each week with extra rehearsals on Saturdays for choreography. Students must be members of the Evans concert band or choir to participate. The show choir performs during Sweets and Sounds, the annual Pops concert and at Liberty Elementary School.
