OTTUMWA — The area made it through Iowa’s first widespread snow of the season without major disruptions, but another round is getting ready to hit.
The National Weather Service says snow will arrive today, though daytime accumulations are expected to only reach a half-inch or so. The main snowfall arrives tonight, when 1-3 inches are expected.
This won’t be an extended storm; most of the snow is expected to fall before midnight. Some may carry over into Saturday, but not much.
The system does herald a return to single-digit overnight lows. Forecasters expect Saturday night to fall to only six degrees.
There is good news in the forecast. The National Weather Service expects Ottumwa temperatures to return to above freezing for at least part of next week. Tuesday’s forecast high is 35. If that happens, it will be the warmest temperature since Dec. 4.
