FAIRFIELD — Police in Fairfield say the suspect in a recent string of car burglaries was arrested Sunday after a brief foot chase.
Shawn Howard, 37, 907 E. Broadway Ave., has been charged with ongoing criminal conduct, a Class B felony, two counts of second degree burglary, Class C felonies, five counts of third degree burglary, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and interference with official acts. The charges could result in more than 50 years behind bars.
In addition, Howard was arrested on an outstanding warrant for domestic abuse.
Howard was arrested just after 5 a.m. Sunday. Officers attempted to stop him at Washington and Main streets, but he fled. He was caught in the 100 block of East Broadway.
Police say Howard had evidence in his possession linking him to five recent car burglaries and a pair of residential burglaries. Victims of those crimes are being contacted to identify property and give statements.
