---- — BONAPARTE — A doll display and silent auction to benefit Bonaparte Main Street's Civil War Experience will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in Bonaparte's Opera House Community Room, 614 First St. in Bonaparte.
The vintage circa 1950s 24-inch dolls have been dressed in Civil War-era clothing by women of all ages from around southeast Iowa for a doll dressing contest held during the Civil War Experience the second weekend in June. This four-year event contest is sponsored by Gianna and Roy Barrow of rural Bonaparte. They provide dolls, stands, hosiery and shoes for volunteers to design and dress in era-appropriate clothing.
The dolls will be on display and sold to the highest bidders at a silent auction over the two days of Bonaparte's Autumn Fest during the Van Buren County Scenic Drive. Bidders need not be present to win but will need to make arrangements to pay for and pick up their doll or to have her mailed.
For more information on the auction or to volunteer to dress a doll for next year, contact Gianna Barrow at 319-592-3132. All proceeds are donated to Bonaparte Main Street, Inc., a nonprofit organization.
