Planning for Holiday Nights 'N Lights underway

OTTUMWA — In November, the Holiday Nights ‘N Lights will once again be back in Ottumwa.

This event is possible because of a huge number of sponsors and volunteers that put together the 1-mile, spectacular, lighted display. Holiday Nights ‘N Lights is a community event that attracts visitors from all over Iowa and several other states. In 2012, more than 16,400 visitors came through the gates to see the displays.

Concern has been expressed by the event organizers for the long-term future of the event.

“It's a major event that takes a team of 15 individuals, led by volunteer Chuck Bates, almost three weeks to set up," says Chamber of Commerce Director Tim Kurtz. “Although we have a wonderful event committee dedicated to the success of the event, additional assistance is needed to keep this event in Ottumwa, especially after this year."

Requests are being made to see if another service group would be willing to share the duties, especially the setup and take down. The concern is that if additional groups are not found, the project may not continue after 2013.

Ayone interested in volunteering or sponsoring a display can call Brenda at 641-682-3465.
