---- — DOUDS — The Douds Community Club is kicking off its new membership year with Pancake Day on Nov. 9.
Pancakes, sausage, coffee, orange juice and chocolate milk will be served in the Douds Community Center from 7-10 a.m. by the men of the community.
Membership in the Douds Community Club is $25 for businesses, $10 for individuals and $5 for those under 18 or over 64. There are two sponsorship levels available. An events sponsor receives a membership and listings in the Pancake Day ad and Douds Field Day ad for $75. An annual sponsor receives a membership, listings in the Pancake Day ad and Douds Field Day ad and also supports the Street Light Fund for a total of $120.
Donations to the Street Light Fund of $35 per household or $60 per business are suggested. The Community Club has installed 21 street lights from the junction of Highways 16 and 98 through town to the Holcomb Creek Bridge, and the annual cost of electricity is more than $3,000.
Memberships, sponsorships and donations to the Street Light Fund may be paid at Pancake Day or mailed to Jim Pedrick at 14006 Highway 98, Douds Iowa 52551. To be listed in Pancake Day advertising, sponsorships need to be paid before Friday.
The Douds Community Club has been promoting community betterment projects since its incorporation in 1948. Original organizers were Stanley Barker, Earl Brown, Bill Carson, Cy Greenfield, Harlan Heckart, Clarence Pedrick, Dale Ratcliff, Joe Salter and Herbert Smith. Current officers are Pastor Phil Campbell, president; Jim Pedrick, treasurer; and Lisa Plowman, secretary. Directors are Sandra Coffman, Brad Debner and Amanda Philips.
Monthly meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday at 7 p.m., and all community members are welcome to attend. Dues-paying members are entitled to vote at the annual meeting, which is held in January every year for the purpose of electing directors and officers. There are vacancies on the board for community-minded Douds-area residents and business owners.
