OTTUMWA — The newly organized Ottumwa Area Community Chorus held its first rehearsal for their upcoming fall concert last weekend.
Weekly rehearsals will be held at 6:30 p.m. each Sunday night in the church hall at St. Mary of the Visitation, Fourth and Court streets, in preparation for the Nov. 24 concert, “Fall Into Christmas.”
The chorus is open to all singers high school age and above, with some music reading ability being a helpful asset to those wishing to join. A time of fellowship will be held after Sunday’s rehearsal to give singers a chance to get to know one another. The chorus will be doing fall and spring concerts plus other events.
While not formally organized until recently, the chorus has over the last 10 years sung Poulenc’s Gloria, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Haydn’s Te Deum and sung selections for Patriot Day in 2012, as well as joining with the Municipal Band to do a medley of patriotic songs for a Fourth of July concert.
The upcoming concert “Fall into Christmas” will feature a variety of music leading toward the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.
All who love choral singing are invited to participate with a special appeal to the area’s male voices. For more information or to obtain copies of the music, contact Tom Shadonix by texting 515-480-6039 or sending an email to Michael R. Potts at email@example.com.
