Bonaparte's Taste of Christmas Dec. 14

Ottumwa Courier

---- — BONAPARTE — Bonaparte Main Street, Inc. is announcing that this will be the final year for their annual Taste of Christmas candlelight dinner and tour of homes, and the format is different than in pervious years.

This one-night event will be held Dec. 14. Reservations will include a map to the four area homes decorated for the holidays that guests can tour at their leisure from 2-5 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. at the Opera House Community Room, 614 First St., Bonaparte. Shops downtown will be open until 6 p.m.

Promotion chair Dana Mabe says that finding buses to take guests to the homes has been increasingly difficult, cost prohibitive and time consuming during the event, causing late nights for both visitors and volunteers.

“By allowing guests to take themselves on the tour during the daytime, they can travel at their leisure, enjoy the scenery and have a more personal experience with the homeowners,” Mabe said.

Following the tour, guests will be welcomed into the Opera House for a candlelight dinner at tables designed, decorated and set for the holidays by area women.

“It’s a feast for the senses with the festive tables, dashing waiters, live holiday music and delicious aromas filling the Opera House,” Gianna Barrow, organization chair, said.

Franny Troutman will play holiday music on the piano, gentlemen from the area will wait the tables and Marilyn Thomas of the Bonaparte Pottery will have wine tasting.

There is limited seating, so it’s not too early to make reservations. Tickets are $25 per person and can be ordered by calling the Bonaparte Main Street office at 319-592-3400 or by sending your check to Bonaparte Main Street, PO Box 51, Bonaparte, Iowa 52620. Bonaparte Main Street, Inc. is a nonprofit organization.
