Fair Queen, Little Miss contestants announced

---- — ELDON — Six young women will be competing for the Wapello County Fair Queen crown next week, while two will be vying for Little Miss.

The competition will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Grandstand.

Queen contestants

Alissabeth Sloan, the daughter of Lisa Sloan of Eldon. Alissabeth is a 2014 graduate of Cardinal High School and will be attending Kirkwood Community College this fall. Alissabeth helps with Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at the Eldon Christian Church. Her school activities include: Cardinal Shooting Comets Archery, FFA, class officer, Comet Crazy leader, chorus, fifth-grade camp counselor, Girl Scouts leader, Little Hands on the Farm volunteer. Alissabeth is an honor roll student and received a Gold Cord Award for 100 hours of community service. In her spare time, Alissabeth enjoys reading, helping at the Wapello County Fair and Eldon Raceway and spending time with her family and friends.

Erin Franklin, the daughter of Robben and Lori Franklin of Eldon. Erin attends Iowa State University, majoring in management and marketing. Erin is a participant in the volunteer in Mission Program, Vacation Bible School teacher, Wapello County Fair volunteer, American Gothic Days mud volleyball co-coordinator and G.A.T.E. volunteer. Her school activities include: Cyclone aide, Delta Sigma Pi professional business fraternity member, Gerdin Citizenship Program leader, student government and class officer. Erin is on the Dean’s List, is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and the National Honor Society. In her spare time, Erin enjoys being with her family, scrapbooking, going to dirt track races and going boating.

Ryley McElderry, the daughter of Allen and Twyla McElderry of Batavia. Ryley attends Cardinal High School, where she is involved in cross-country, football cheerleader, basketball, archery, choir, band, drama, Quiz Bowl and speech. Ryley volunteers at Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter. She is a member of the National Honor Society. In her spare time, Ryley enjoys reading classic novels, singing and watching musicals or plays.

MaKenzie Jensen, the daughter of Joel and Carol Jensen of Ottumwa. MaKenzie will be attending Indian Hills Community College this fall. She is involved in S.A.L.T., Fellowship of Christian Athletes, FFA, anti-bullying club and helps with various food drives. Her school activities include: volleyball, basketball, track, softball, dance team, speech, Junior Red Cross member and band. In her spare time, MaKenzie enjoys taking photos, singing, dancing and spending time with family and friends.

Hailie Rush, the daughter of Marion Rush and Lori Liles of Eldon. Hailie attends Cardinal High School, where she is involved in band, cheerleading and helping the concession stand. Hailie participates in Gothic Days, Batavia Days, Agency’s 4th of July celebration and has helped clean up the Wapello County Fair. In her spare time, Hailie enjoys helping on the farm, swimming, Irish dancing, horse racing and reading.

Dakota Durflinger, the daughter of Bill and Lenore Durflinger of Agency. Dakota attends Cardinal Community Schools, where she is involved in the fall play, musical, softball, basketball, volleyball, student council, dance, archery and FFA. She is a volunteer at Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter and a blood donor. In her spare time, Dakota enjoys reading, writing, drawing, knitting, volleyball and scrapbooking.

Little Miss Contestants:

Autumn Sertterh, the daughter of Brad and Kristen Sertterh of Agency. Autumn attends Cardinal Community Schools and is involved in Clover Kids, YMCA basketball and T-Ball, Daisy Girl Scouts and dancing. Autumn’s hobbies include riding her bike, dancing, drawing and singing.

Lauren Sloan, the daughter of Kevin and Tiffany Sloan of Eldon. Lauren attends Cardinal Community Schools and is involved in Sunday school at Eldon Christian Church, Vacation Bible School and Girl Scouts. Lauren’s hobbies include playing softball, tumbling and swimming.
