OHS alumnus hired as district CFO

OTTUMWA — An Ottumwa High School alumnus will return to Ottumwa as the district’s new chief financial officer for business operations.

Alex Barr will begin his duties on July 14, overseeing the district’s $70 million budget. He is a 1994 OHS graduate and for the past 15 years has worked in public accounting, auditing school districts, area education agencies and community colleges.

“As a native Ottumwan, I feel very fortunate to be able to return to my hometown and serve the community I grew up in,” Barr said. “I am aware of the recent construction projects and other improvements within the school district and am excited to be involved in the process as well.”

“Ottumwa was fortunate to have John Donner’s expertise for the past 14 years,” said Superintendent Dr. Davis Eidahl. “Because of the financial position we are in, we were able to attract highly qualified candidates for this position.”

Eidahl is excited to have an OHS graduate return to Ottumwa.

“It is a testament to our community and school district when our graduates want to return to Ottumwa," he said.

Barr’s duties will include developing and maintaining the district’s budget, coordinating student transportation, preparing local, state and federal financial reports, assisting in the negotiation process, responsible for personnel in the business department and implementing the legal requirements as secretary and treasurer to the board of directors.
