OTTUMWA — Flu shots will begin next week at Wapello County Public Health from 1-3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
Wapello County Public Health will be offering the "quad" flu shot vaccine, which contains two A and two B strains instead of the typical three-strain vaccine. This is the first year the quad vaccine is available to the community.
Due to an increase in the cost of the vaccine, the charge will be $30. Cash, check or Medicare Part B will be accepted. If you have Medicare Part B, you must present your card in order for Wapello County Public Health to bill Medicare.
Wapello County Public Health encourages anyone 6 months of age and older, especially pregnant women, elderly, parents of newborns and immune-compromised individuals to be vaccinated against the flu. Influenza is very contagious and can be spread by a simple cough from someone within 3 feet of you.
