OTTUMWA — Don R. McInerney, 93, of 6708 Cliffland Rd. died at 6:30 a.m. August 8, 2013 at Ridgewood Nursing & Rehab Center.
He was born July 4, 1920 in Ottumwa, IA to William and Ann North McInerney.
He married Lois L. Saulsbury on September 26, 1942.
A resident of Ottumwa all of his life, he graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1937.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Don was a hog buyer for John Morrell & Co. and Hormel for over 45 years, retiring in 1985. He farmed all of his life.
In the ’60s and ’70’s Don was involved in harness racing.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a life member of Knights of Columbus Council #888.
Surviving is his wife, Lois; a daughter, Ann Cullinan and a son, Mike McInerney, both of Ottumwa; four grandchildren, Chris (Sara) Cullinan, Hollie (Phil) Nord both of Urbandale, Michelle (Joe) DeGabriele of Cedar Falls and Lisa Kaulfold of Ottumwa and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis & William McInerney and one sister, Rosemary Moffit.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Patrick Hilgendorf presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Sunday at Reece Funeral Home. A Christian Wake service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday followed by the family present until 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
