EDDYVILLE — Steven R. Tilley, 64, of Eddyville, died Aug. 8, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.
Steve was born on Nov. 2, 1948, in Boone to Raymond and Doris (Walker) Tilley. Steve attended Boone High School before he joined the U.S. Navy. He served from 1965-69 in the Seabees. He also served in the Vietnam War.
On March 20, 1971, at the United Methodist Church in Boone, Steve and Gloria Jean Adreon were united in marriage. Steve and Gloria shared 42 years of marriage together and were blessed with four children, Tanya, Jerry, Todd and Jenny.
Steve was talented in almost all fields of construction and worked construction most of his life. He also worked for Adreon’s Roto Rooter for 20 years and was currently working with Tri County Construction.
Steve enjoyed the outdoors. He was an excellent hunter and fisherman. He taught many children fishing, hunting and gun safety. Steve and his son, Todd, also enjoyed traveling to several different states to participate in fishing tournaments. Steve enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and watching them in sports.
Steve is survived by his wife Gloria Tilley; three children, Tanya Guyer of Eddyville, Todd (Janet Mae) Tilley of Unionville and Jenny (Russ) Slaymaker of Eddyville; 11 grandchildren, Madison, Konner, Kameron, Brandie (Jesse), Codie (Jenni), Kirbie (Julie), Raychael, Tray, Laura, Corey and Shaylyn; and five great-grandchildren, Hanah, Jaylene, Tyler, Cody and Zach. Steve is also survived by three sisters, Pam, Patty and Gloria.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jerry Tilley; and two grandsons, Cody and Kolby.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church of Eddyville; with Pastor Dennis Durst officiating. Military Honors will be held at the church following services. Steve’s wishes were to be cremated, and a private family burial will be held at a later date.
Visitation for Steve will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel of Eddyville with family present from 6-8 p.m.
A memorial has been established to Steve’s family.
