Lois Schmitter, 95, Bloomfield


BLOOMFIELD — Lois Irvin Schmitter, 95, of Bloomfield, died Aug. 29, 2012, at the Bloomfield Care Center. 

She was born April 30, 1917, in Pulaski, to George Washington and Blanche Bollman Davis. She married Lee Irvin Sept. 12, 1942. He preceded her in death Aug. 2, 1966. She later married Doyle Schmitter Nov. 22, 1983. He preceded her in death Jan. 28, 2008.

Lois and husband Lee owned and operated the Pony Farm in Bloomfield, and she later worked for the Davis County Savings Bank, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church, a 50-year member and past matron of Bloomfield Friendship Chapter 46 of the Order of Eastern Star, Bloomfield Chapter “Q” and past state president of Iowa TTT and the P.E.O. Chapter “B.” She was also a member of the Friday Club and was a Rainbow mother.

She is survived by a stepdaughter, Nancy Swope of Ottumwa; a stepson, Hal Schmitter of Middleburg, Vt.; four stepgrandchildren; two nieces, Pam Brake of Bloomfield and Patricia St. Clair of Phoenix, Ariz.; a nephew, Bob Hull of Bloomfield; and several great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a sister, Floydene Hull; and a nephew, Steven Hull.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield; with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. 

The body has been cremated, and no visitation is planned. 

Memorials have been established to the Bloomfield United Methodist Church and Davis County Dollars for Scholars.
