BLOOMFIELD — John D. Dabney, 95, of Bloomfield, died Feb. 9, 2014, at the Bloomfield Care Center.
He was born Nov. 30, 1918, in Bloomfield to Otis L. and Iris A. Cozad Dabney. He married Madlyn Gleam Day Aug. 12, 1942, in Waynesville, Mo. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and then worked as a farmer and a home builder. He was affiliated with the Savannah Christian Church and was a member of Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Gary (Peggy) Dabney of Strafford, Mo., Terry Dabney of Marshfield, Mo.; three daughters, Sheila (Mike) Whittington of Floris, Linda (Mike) Kinnamon of Bloomfield and Jacqueline Bolin of Collinsville, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren;
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; and a brother, Otis Laverne Dabney.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield; Kramer Smith officiating. Burial with military rites performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m.
A memorial has been established to the Savannah Christian Church.
