ALBIA — Elizabeth “Betty” May Jones, 94, of Albia, passed away Feb. 11, 2014, at Monroe Care Center in Albia.
Betty was born Jan. 26, 1920, to James Henry and Elizabeth (Robinson) McDonough in Melrose. She married Raymond L. Jones on Jan. 25, 1953, at the First Christian Church in Albia. He preceded her in death in Aug. 21, 2008.
Betty grew up and attended school in Melrose. She worked as a waitress in Albia before staying home to raise her children.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Albia. She enjoyed fox hunting with her husband, being outdoors, painting, crocheting and knitting. She also loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren.
Betty is survived by five children, Ronald Lee Rhatigan of Albia, Reva Maye (James) Dunning of Albia, Robert Ray Rhatigan of Marshalltown, Richard James (Erma) Rhatigan of Jacksonville, Fla., and Roy Howard (Linda) Rhatigan of Council Bluffs; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Howard Rhatigan and Raymond Jones; daughter, Rosalie Ann Rhatigan; stepdaughter, Karen Durham; five sisters, Irene Peterson, Ann Leonard, Nell Wood, Josephine Walker and Agnes Trisler; and three brothers, Dave, Joe and James McDonough.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia; Pastor Lynda Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery in Avery.
Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Friday at the Tharp Funeral Home with Betty’s family present from 6-8 p.m.
An open memorial has been established in Betty’s name.
