OTTUMWA — Wesley E. “Pete” Barnhill, 86, formerly of 102 W. Finley, died at 9 a.m. February 20, 2014 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born September 17, 1927 in Ottumwa to Wesley Charles and Grace Ethel Young Barnhill. He married Ellen Jane Ives on October 4, 1947. She preceded him in death on October 23, 2005.
Pete was veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for 26 years at John Morrell & Co., for 15 years with Norris Construction and Norris Asphalt, retiring in 1989.
He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are two daughters, Jeanne (Dale) Howe and Barbara Bix both of Ottumwa; two grandsons, Joshua Barnhill and Anthony Nupp; a great-granddaughter, Sara Nupp.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo, Bob and David Barnhill; two sisters, Vera Adeline Banning and Beulah Pearson
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. David Klanderman officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
