OTTUMWA — Walter W. Meeker, 91, formerly of 706 Queen Ann, died at 1:40 p.m. February 20, 2014 at The Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
He was born February 21, 1922 in Cedar to Travis M. and Mary Luella McKittrick Meeker. He married Juanita Vannoy on July 30, 1941. She preceded him in death on October 2, 2001.
Walter was a WWII veteran, having served with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific.
He worked for 30 years for John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1977.
Surviving are five sons, Gary (Merna) Meeker of Davenport, Dale (Rosemary) Meeker, Steve Meeker and Neil (Staci) Meeker all of Ottumwa, Dennis (Denise) Meeker of Killeen, TX; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters, and a great-grandson.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Monday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
