---- — OTTUMWA — Joseph Kelly Janney, 86, of 134 N. James St., died February 27, 2014, at his home.
He was born October 28, 1927, in Muscatine County, Iowa, to George Washington and Bessie Stockfleet Janney. He married Cinderella Boyles on December 24, 1947. They later divorced.
A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, he served with the Merchant Marines during World War II, serving in Saipan, Japan. In 1947, Joseph joined the U.S. Navy Air Corps, being stationed in Florida. He had worked in dry wall construction, retiring in 1985.
He was a vivid Chicago Cub fan and Iowa Hawkeye fan.
Surviving are a son, Teddy Janney of Ottumwa; a daughter, Shelia Phillips of Ottumwa; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bob Janney of Illinois; a sister, Maxine of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Janney and Joseph Janney; five brothers, Frank, Donald, Lemone, John and Harold Janney; four sisters, Josephine Smith, Ella Tedrow, Molly Brandt and Mabel Turner; two half brothers, Lester and Loring Janney.
His body has been cremated. No services are planned.
