HEDRICK — Willa Mae Ostrander, 83, of R.R. #1, Hedrick, died at 4:33 a.m. Feb. 28, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
She was born Jan. 19, 1931, at her home in rural Batavia, the daughter of Charles and Grace Parker. She married Denver Ostrander Feb. 4, 1950, in Batavia. Willa Mae was a 1949 graduate of Farson High School. She worked briefly at Morrison Chevrolet in Batavia before quitting to devote herself to raising her four children. She and Denver farmed since 1963 and lived together on their family farm. She was a member of Arbor Vitae Chapter #327 Order of the Eastern Starr in Batavia. She loved quilting, taking care of animals, sports and farming.
Surviving are her husband, Denver; four children, Norma Tharp of Columbia, Mo., Dennis (Peggy) Ostrander of Burlington, Nancy (Bruce) McClure of Agency and Douglas (Marcy) Ostrander of Waukee; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Kenneth Parker.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Grace Funeral Care in Batavia. Burial will be in the Batavia Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
