BLOOMFIELD — Dillion Lyons, 93, of Coralville, formerly of Bloomfield, died Dec. 16, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clincs.
He was born Aug. 4, 1920, in Bloomfield to Howard William and Estella Belle Francis Lyons. He married Mary Lee Chadwick Nov. 24, 1940, in Bloomfield. She preceded him in death June 27, 2006. Dillion served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a farmer and worked at John Morrell in Ottumwa. He was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church and Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield. He had also been a member of the Good Sam’s Club and the Kalico Klickers.
He is survived by a son, Ron (Anita) Lyons of Visalia, Calif.; two daughters, Karen Roth of North Liberty and Donna (Terry) York of Loveland, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a granddaughter, Cindy Beghtol; four brothers, Berl, Dale, Harry and Royce Lyons; and two sisters, Vera Lyons and Velda Howarth.
Graveside services with military rites will be at noon Saturday at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield; Pastor Jack Knox officiating. Miliary rites will be performed by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield.
The family will be at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
A memorial in lieu of flowers has been established to the Bloomfield Christian Church.
