---- — OTTUMWA – Kara Ann Folkers, 80, of Ottumwa, formerly of Albia, died December 24, 2013, at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
She was born April 10, 1933, in Hills, Minn., to Oscar C. and Gertrude Topp Olson. She married Hienie Folkers on December 30, 1951.
A resident of Albia since 1976, she and her husband owned and operated the Sears store in Albia.
She was a former member of East End Presbyterian Church in Ottumwa and attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia.
Kara enjoyed gardening, canning, collecting antique radios, making cheesecakes and decorating for Christmas. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband; her children, Denise Lynn (Craig) Linebaugh of McHenry, Ill., Gregory John (Mary) Folkers of Rochelle, Ill.,, Raymond Brice (Wendy) Folkers of Knoxville and Twilla Kruzic of Mystic; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ellen Kay (Jerry) Thompson of Minneapolis, Minn.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Gene Boone and Lois Norton.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Neil Montz officiating. Graveside services and burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Gilman Cemetery in Ashton, Iowa.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Friday with the family present one hour prior to the service.
