---- — ALBIA — Hattie Lorene Gile, 96, of Albia, passed away Dec. 25, 2013, under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice at Oakwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albia.

Lorene was born May 18, 1917, to Clarence and Laura (Christopher) Wood in Sumner, Mo. She married Charles “Chuck” Albert Gile on April 19, 1939. They shared 68 years of marriage before Chuck’s passing on July 28, 2007.

Lorene graduated from Newton High School in 1936. She was a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Chariton. She enjoyed dancing to big band music, doing board puzzles and word searches. She also liked to sew and do latch hook work.

Lorene is survived by two children, Richard (Carole) Gile of Oskaloosa and Carol (Terry) Reese of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Sherrie Gile of Oskaloosa, David (Kim) Gile of Oskaloosa, Laura Reese of Altoona and Rick (Christine) Reese of West Des Moines; six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chuck; two brothers; and a sister.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia; Pastor Neil Montz officiating. A private family burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose at a later date.

Visitation with the family present will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
