KIRKVILLE — Betty Jean Harland, 86, formerly of Kirkville, died at 4 p.m. December 31, 2013, at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
She was born May 1, 1927, in Ottumwa to James William and Elfa May Dickey Hartley. She married Harvey Earl Harland Sr. February 6, 1948. He preceded her in death on October 26, 2000.
Surviving are four daughters, Lora Jean Kuehl of Davenport, Deborah Reese of Beacon, Vicky Murphy of Ottumwa and Sue Newell of Eddyville; two sons, Harvey Earl Harland Jr. “Skeeter” of Blakesburg and Gary Harland Sr. of Hedrick; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Buchholz of Blackfoot, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Garrison, Clyde and Howard Hartley and a half brother, Frank Hartley; five sisters, Deloris Holman, Zella Smith, Garnett Hartley, Marjorie Long and Blanche Morford; a son-in-law, Richard Murphy Sr.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Friday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.
