BLOOMFIELD — Margaret Ann Silvers, 80, of Bloomfield, died Jan. 1, 2014, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa.
She was born Sept. 4, 1933, in Van Buren County to Schuyler Hubert and Velma Mae Yates Gooden. She married Max Silvers March 6, 1954, in the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He preceded her in death Sept. 18, 2013. Margaret was a homemaker and helped run the family farm. She was active at the Davis County Fair helping the Cattlemen’s Association and helping in the 4-H exhibit building. She was interested in politics and helped at the county and state level by registering voters and volunteering at caucuses. She was a member of the West Grove United Methodist Church and the Troy Mother’s Club. Max and Margaret enjoyed camping together at the Iowa State Fair, Old Thresher’s Reunion, the Bluegrass Festival in Bloomfield and the Fall Festival in Van Buren.
She is survived by two sons, Steve Silvers of Bloomfield, Michael (Sheryl) Silvers of Carlisle; four daughters, Carla Silvers of Warrensburg, Mo., Joni Hoover (Thomas Swaim Jr.), Jan Christensen, both of Bloomfield, Dana (Robb) Cook of Martin, S.D.; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (Lowell) Bowling of Wichita, Kan., Mary Lou Dixon of Bloomfield; and a brother-in-law, Donald LaVerne Silvers of Lake Havasu, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter-in-law, Tammy Silvers; infant sister, Nancy Sue Gooden; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Dixon.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield; Pastor Sheri Squires officiating. Burial of the cremains will be at the Troy Cemetery in Troy.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday with the family present to greet friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials have been established to the West Grove United Methodist Church and to the Davis County Fair.
