OTTUMWA — Madeline J. Johnson 87, of 1006 W. Second St., died at 1:15 a.m. January 3, 2014, at Hospice House in Ottumwa after a battle with acute myeloid leukemia.
She was born September 7, 1926, in Ottumwa to Lewis and Ruth Hammersley Crumes.
Madeline had been an employee of the Ordinance Plant in Burlington and had worked for Standard Kollsman in Ottumwa. She retired from Everco after many years.
She was a member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and O.B. Nelson Unit #3 American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are a daughter, Gale Sauer of Ottumwa; a son, Jett Johnson of Ottumwa; two grandchildren, Jennifer Sauer and Michael Sauer; two great-grandsons, Myles Sauer and Keith Sauer; two sisters, Connie (Myron) Gordin of Oskaloosa, Margaret (Arlin) Gordin of Pella; four brothers, Marvin Crumes of Ottumwa, Paul Crumes of Cedar Rapids, Jimmy (Henrietta) Crumes of Vinton and Reggie (Karol) Crumes of Altoona.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Crumes.
Her body has been cremated, and no services are planned.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice serving Wapello and Davis Counties, 927 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Ottumwa, Iowa 52501.
