ALBIA — Warren Dean Stokes, 87, of Albia, passed away Jan. 3, 2014, at Monroe County Hospital in Albia.
Warren was born Oct. 7, 1926, to Lowell and Katherine (Delashmutt) Stokes in Rexfield. He married Charlotte Raymae on May 23, 1953, at the Methodist Church in Albia. Warren and Charlotte shared 60 years of marriage, and to this union two children were born, Michael and Dennis.
Warren graduated from Oskaloosa High School, class of 1944. After school, Warren served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked at John Deere in Ottumwa for 31 years before retiring in 1980.
Warren was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia. He enjoyed spending time with family. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Hawkeyes and Cardinals.
Warren is survived by his wife Charlotte of Albia; two children, Michael Stokes of Ottumwa and Dennis Stokes of Albia; two granddaughters, Jessica and Caitlin; and one sister, Nancy Spaur of Albia. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial Mass will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia; Fr. Michael E. Volkmer, C.PP.S. officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
No visitation is planned.
