OTTUMWA — Mary Elizabeth Cook, 89, formerly of 1219 Hammond Ave., died at 3:25 a.m. January 12, 2014, at The Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
She was born June 22, 1924, in Mitchellville, Iowa, to Harley and Dorothy Crall Myers. She married Cecil Cook on December 5, 1942.
A resident of Ottumwa most of her life, she graduated from Ottumwa High School and Iowa Success School. She worked as secretary at Green Colonial Furnace, Burlington Truck Lines, Norris Construction and West End Pharmacy. She was a member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are her husband, Cecil, of Ottumwa; a daughter, Diana (Dr. Elvin) McCarl of Ottumwa; son-in-law, Warren Wilson of Locust Grove, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Paul Edward Cook of Kansas City, Mo., Tammy (Kurtis) Chastain of Cameron, Mo., Norman (Amy) Cook of Kingston, Mo., C.J. (Maggie) Koechner of Paola, Mo., Kris (Ralph) McConaughey of Ottumwa, Patty Mundt of West Des Moines, Sue (Steve) Canen of Loganville, Ga., and Sheri (Johnny) Stevens of Blairsville, Ga.; 16 great-grandchildren, Chareanna, Braxston, Clayton and Dawson Cecil Cook, Keneisha and Kaylan McConaughey, Brandon and Elle Mundt, Trenton and Dillon Canen, Addie and Aspen Stevens, Briana and Levi Chastain, Aaron and Ella Koechner; a sister, Bonnie (Jerry) Miller of Olathe, Kan., and a brother, Richard (Barb) Myers of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Wilson; a son, Paul (Esther) Cook; three sisters, Beulah (Phil) Payne, Helen (Paul) Black and Frances (LaVelle) Watts and infant brother, Frankie Myers.
Her body has been cremated.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Trinity Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Mark Eigsti officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Church of the Nazarene.
