Joan Ilene Leazer, 89, of Knoxville, formerly of Fremont, died Dec. 16, 2012, at West Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Knoxville.
She was born Oct. 2, 1923, at Rose Hill, the daughter of Irvin and Hilda Hedge Prather. On Nov. 11, 1945, Joan was united in marriage to Keith Leazer in Oskaloosa. Keith died Sept. 3, 1996.
She graduated from the Fremont High School with the class of 1941. While Keith was in the service they lived in Great Falls, Mont. In 1946, following Keith’s discharge, they returned to Fremont. In 1956, they moved back to Great Falls, Mont., and lived there until 1978, when they moved to Deming, N.M. While living in Great Falls, Joan worked as a nurse’s aid. Joan was a member of the Fremont United Methodist Church.
Her family includes three grandchildren, Kevin Gordon and Darcy Lemus, both of Tacoma, Wash., and Alicia Miekosz of San Diego, Calif.; four great-grandsons; a brother, Willard (Susan) Prather of Knoxville; and many cousins, nieces, nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a daughter, Carol Gordon.
As was her wish, her body has been cremated.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Fremont United Methodist Church in Fremont; with Rev. Ron Bupp officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Great Falls, Mont., at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Fremont United Methodist Church.
