OTTUMWA — John N. Golston, 87, formerly of 21 Kingsley Dr. died at 7:45 a.m. December 1, 2012 at Vista Woods Care Center.

He was born June 21, 1925 in Exline, IA to Lowell and Jessie Miller Golston. He married Vera Dale Husted March 23, 1946 in Unionville, MO.  She preceded him in death December 20, 2009.

He graduated from Unionville High School in 1942. A veteran of the U.S. Marines, he served during World War II in the South Pacific in the Battles of Guam and of Iwo Jima.

He retired from John Deere Ottumwa Works after 32 years of service.

He was a member of Davis Street Christian Church, the Sac and Fox Lapidary Club.

He collected coins and rocks and was an avid Hawkeye fan.

Surviving is his daughter, Beverly (Jerry) Guinn of Bloomfield; two granddaughters, Holly (Alex) Glade of Omaha, Katy (Seth) Houston of Bloomfield; five great grandchildren and a brother, Billy (Helen) Golston of Unionville, MO.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Jack Knox officiating.  Military services will be conducted at the funeral home by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 of the American Legion. Burial will be in Lone Pine Cemetery in Martinstown, MO.

Visitation begins 1 p.m. Tuesday with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to Hospice of Davis & Wapello Counties or Davis Street Christian Church.
