---- — OTTUMWA — Kathryn Carol Penrod, 83, of Ottumwa departed this life on March 5, 2014, at the Haven.

She was born January 27, 1931, in rural Davis County, Iowa, to William Alfred and Frances Lavelle Kendrick. A 1948 graduate of Eldon High School, Carol worked for Look Magazine in Des Moines, Iowa, and later for John Morrell Company in Ottumwa before marrying Leonard Rex Penrod, of Eldon, Iowa, on November 25, 1949. The couple divorced in December of 1970. After her sons were born, Carol worked first for the Eldon/Cardinal Community School District as a secretary and then for John Deere Ottumwa Works. She retired from John Deere in 1985 after 21 years of service.

Carol was a member of the Willard Street United Methodist Church, the His Promise Circle of King’s Daughters and Sons and was the Past County President from 2001-2005, the Ottumwa Women’s Club (past president), Chapter 112 of the Order of Eastern Star, and the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem # 4, Christina Court #3 Order of the Amaranth. Carol served for 14 years on the Salvation Army Advisory Board, was a former Hospice volunteer, and was also a volunteer at the Southeast Iowa Blood Center.

Carol is survived by two sons, Michael (Dianna) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Roger of Anchorage, Alaska; three granddaughters, Sara, Susan and Emily all living in Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her sister, Mary Comer; her brother, Daniel Kendrick; her daughter-in-law, Jill Tipton Penrod; her niece, Jeanne Bollinger; and her nephew, Scott Thompson.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with Rev. Leila Disburg officiating. Burial will be in Eldon Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. An Eastern Star Service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday.
