OTTUMWA — Leora L. “Lee” Simmons, 90, of Ottumwa, went to be with Jesus at 5:25 a.m. March 13, 2014, at the Bloomfield Care Center.
She was born December 26, 1923, in Bloomfield, Iowa, to Emery and Eldora Loney Melton. She married James Simmons in October 1942, and he preceded her in death on November 7, 2004.
A graduate of Bloomfield High School, Lee had worked for 21 years in food service at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
She was a member of First Pentecostal Assembly of God in Ottumwa.
Surviving are three sons, Jim (Jennifer) Simmons of Washburn, Ill., Bob (Janet) Simmons of Ottumwa and David (Diana) Simmons of Bloomfield; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, David Simmons Jr.; four brothers, James, Homer, Lowell and Gerald Melton; four sisters, Mary Martin, Verta Hoffman, Gladys Anderson and Lola Hayworth.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at First Pentecostal Assembly of God with Pastor Richard Schlotter officiating.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Sunday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
