OTTUMWA — Bobby L. Whatley, 78, of Ottumwa. died at 6:03 p.m. March 25, 2014, at Ridgewood Nursing & Rehab Center.
He was born February 7, 1936, in Chico, Texas, to William Johnson and Mary Melvina Roach Whatley. He married Wanda J. Schmelzenbach on December 26, 1956.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953-57. A graduate of Indian Hills Community College, he was a master electrician.
He was a member of Ottumwa Baptist Temple. He pastored in several churches.
Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Brin L. (Carl) Adams of St. Paul, Minn., Donna (John) Strasko of Eddyville and Mary Ann (Hugh) Johnston of Albia; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sherry Lynn Whatley; two brothers, Gary Dale and Eugene Whatley; and a sister, Glenda Sue Day.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ottumwa Baptist Temple with Rev. Randy Miller officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 of the American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ottumwa Baptist Temple.
