---- — OTTUMWA — Elmer M. Alderman, 92, of Peoria, Ill., formerly of Fremont, Iowa, died March 28, 2014, at the Christian Buehler Memorial Home in Peoria, Ill.
He was born September 9, 1921, in Fremont, Iowa, to Jesse W. and Lulu E. King Alderman. He married Lois N. Miller on August 24, 1945, at the Willard St. United Methodist Church in Ottumwa.
Elmer was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1938 and from Iowa State College in 1952. He worked for 33 years as an engineer at Caterpillar in Peoria before retiring in 1983.
Elmer had been a resident of Peoria, Ill., since 1966 and was a member of University United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his loving wife Lois of 68 years and a son, Larry A. (Karen) Alderman of Freeport, Ill.; three grandchildren, Mark (Charlene) of Pearl City, Ill., Matthew (Natasha) of Monroe, Wis., Mario of Blue Island, Ill.; eight great-grandchildren, Ethan, Oshiahanna, Yazzmine, Draven, Cataleya, Emmalina Rose, Zacharia Jack, Mario III.
He was preceded in death by a by his parents; a brother, Albert (Neva); three sisters Thelma (William) VanderWaal, Opel Alderman and an infant sister; and one grandson, Zechariah Coulthard.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with Rev. Chris Schmidt officiating from the Potters House Church of Monroe, Wis.. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
The visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday.
