---- — OTTUMWA — Margaret E. Mahaskey, 90, of 1316 E. Mary St., died at 12:45 a.m. April 1, 2014, at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
She was born October 1, 1923, in Montrose, Mo., to Andrew and Verna E. Hanes Yencsik. She married Albert Mahaskey on October 10, 1945. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1997.
Margaret and her husband owned and operated Al’s City Service and Al’s Auto Service.
She was a member and past president of O.B. Nelson Unit #3 American Legion Auxiliary and was a member of AARP and Hospice serving Wapello and Davis Counties Auxiliary.
Surviving are her son, Michael Mahaskey of Ottumwa; two grandchildren, Scott (Gail) Mahaskey of Alexandria, Va., and Brenda (Chad) Moats of Liberty, Mo.; a sister, Mary (Pete) Rich of Ottumwa; two brothers, Joe (Pauline) Yencsik of Ottumwa and Andrew (Ruth) Yencsik of Rockford, Ill.; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and George Yencsik.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. David Klanderman officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Thursday. A Christian Wake service with Father Patrick Hilgendorf presiding will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday followed by family visitation until 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice serving Wapello and Davis Counties, 927 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Ottumwa, Iowa 52501.
