OTTUMWA — Darlene May Mottet, 85, of 1404 Lake Road, died at 3:34 a.m. September 16, 2013, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
She was born October 9, 1927, in Ottumwa to Emil and Mary Christy Stainer. She married Bernard “Ben” Vincent Mottet on March 31, 1956.
Darlene had worked at Iowa Pacific Butter & Egg, worked 29 years at John Morrell & Co. until 1973, and then worked for 17 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works. For the past 20 years, she worked at Herberger's.
She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a proud union member of AFL-CIO Local P1 and UAW Local 74.
Darlene was a loyal friend, a wonderful mother, grandmother and a great wife of 57 years.
Surviving are her husband, Ben; a son, Doug (Connie) Mottet of Ottumwa; two daughters, Kathy Lynn Soukup of California and Bonnie Marie Wilson of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth (Mike) Acevedo, Julia Wilson, Susan (Brian) Portz, Elizabeth Soukup, Cady Soukup, Jill (Wendell) Brown and John (Elyse Harper) Mottet; five great-grandchildren, Addison, Josephine and Ellamae Portz, Zoe Isabel Acevedo and Ryker Douglas Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Billy Wilson; a sister, Nellie Grant; three brothers, Arthur, Harold and Raymond Stainer.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Patrick Hilgendorf presiding. Cremation will follow the service. Private inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
