Ruby Paxton

OTTUMWA – Ruby Darlene Zetta Kirby Paxton, 97, was welcomed into Heaven by her Lord and Savior and many loved ones on Sept. 29, 2013.

Ruby was born on July 16, 1916, in Frederick, the daughter of Willard and Cora Rogers Billings. She attended Cuba School in Monroe County. She married Ted Kirby in 1934, and they had nine children. After Ted’s death in 1954, Ruby married Kenneth I. Paxton in 1959.

Rev. Kenneth and Ruby Paxton pastored churches and were traveling evangelists for many years. After Ken’s death in 1978, Ruby was the pianist at the Chapel of Praise for many years.

She was a nurse’s aide for Hershey Convalescent Home and Lutheran Homes for many years and did private duty after retirement.

She was a very loving mother to her children and was well-known for her homemade noodles, pies and many other items. With her passing, this world seems a little darker, but Heaven is brighter. We’ll all miss her so much.

The family would like to give special thanks to Iowa Hospice and also to Pam Casey, Margo Steinke and Donna Steinke; to her pastor and his wife for their special visits; and also from the loving family from the Chapel of Praise Church.

Those left to honor her memory include her five children, Delores Wilkins of Davenport, Patricia Downing of Ottumwa, Marilyn Paulding of Des Moines, Steve Kirby of Ottumwa and Mark Kirby and companion, Donna Steinke, of Muscatine; one daughter-in-law, Doris Kirby of Marion; 17 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; and four children, Carole Kirby, Dale Kirby, David Kirby and Barbara Ash.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Praise Church, Muscatine; Rev. Sam Barger officiating. Burial take place in Shaul Cemetery, Ottumwa.

Visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m. today at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the family in care of Mark Kirby or to Chapel of Praise.

Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.
